↳ Challenge
OBOS, a leading residential developer in the Nordics, wanted to leverage existing building data to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. They partnered with tba_ to explore, test, and potentially develop the idea from concept to a market-ready product.
In close collaboration with OBOS, we launched an intensive four week internal sprint that resulted in plans for a brand new climate app. The app would use real-time data on electricity, water, and internet consumption in homes. By integrating behavioral psychology, the goal was to inspire OBOS members to reduce their individual carbon footprints. The development process included extensive concept development, one-on-one user testing, and an eight-week pilot at OBOS Living Lab, involving 36 housing units.

The result was the Carbonator app - a digital tool that provides users with detailed insights into their consumption and carbon footprint through real-time data, encouraging more sustainable everyday choices. Following a successful pilot, 80% of users remained active after eight weeks, and 60% reported increased awareness of climate-friendly behavior in their daily lives. The app is now being scaled to 500,000 OBOS members, with the vision of empowering individuals to take an active role in the green transition.
